Sara Amash, organizer of the toy drive, said they wanted to encourage the Mississauga residents to give back and spread a little holiday cheer to those less fortunate. The not-for-profit organization, which also has chapters in Windsor, Kitchener, London, Toronto, Hamilton, Ajax, Ottawa and Montreal, donated about 150 new toys its members collected in the last two months. Some 350 children at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto will wake up Christmas morning with smiles on their faces thanks to donors that included Mississauga’s Omahat (Mothers) Without Borders. Today we witness the re-launch of Al Asheqeen by a group of Palestinian and Arab singers who live in London. They obtained a prize from Nanette Festival in France, in addition to other worldwide honorary Awards.Due to difficult political circumstances in the 80’s, the band stopped singing despite numerous attempts to revive it.
Poetry of other famous poets, who passed away, such as Mahmoud Darwish, Tawfiq Zayyad, Noah Ibrahim, Yousif Al Hassoun, was also used.Their main composer was Hussein Nazek in addition to Mohammad Saad Theyab, Mohammad Al Jamal and Mutee Al Masri.The band held concerts in various countries such as, Greece, the USA, Canada, the UK and many Arab capitals. Their songs narrated the story of the struggle of a people to gain freedom and independence.The lyrics and poetry used in their songs mainly belonged to prominent poet Ahmad Dahbour in addition to other poets such as Abul Sadeq Salah and Hussein Hamza.

Since its initial launched, Al Asheqeen’s songs were based on traditional and folkloric Palestinian music. What is the start date?Begins Saturday September 22 nd, 2012 5pm – 8pmĪl Asheqeen is a Palestinian band founded in 1977 in Damascus by prominent composer Hussein Nazek, great lyrics writer Ahmad Dahbour and managed by Ahmad Al Jamal. And finally our Theatre lessons will focus on silent theatre as well as monologs and acting, to give those interested in Drama and theatre a chance to act and shine. Poetry classes will attract children and youth who have had or continue to have interest in learning inspirational poetry (in both English & Arabic), and learn to recite poetry by pronounced Arab poets such as Mahmoud Darwish, Nizar Qabbani and various others. What the lessons include? Our talented Dabkeh instructors will focus on folkloric Arabic Dabkeh style using the both traditional and current music. Therefore we are encouraging members of the community to encourage their children and their youth to participate in our Saturday evening classes that will focus on our Palestinian Cultural Heritage: Dabkeh training/performance, Poetry reciting, and Theatre performance.
